Capture One is an all-in-one image cataloguing, raw processing and editing program that competes head-on with Adobe Lightroom. It's famous for the quality of its raw processing, tethered shooting and editing tools, and it's also available for a single 'perpetual' licence fee, unlike its arch-rival Lightroom. Capture One Fujifilm has two running modes: Express and Pro. Fujifilm Express is a completely free version of Capture One with a basic set of image editing tools. Capture One (also known as Capture One Pro) is a photo editing software, developed by Phase One. In addition to image editing it performs image cataloguing, raw image file processing, and tethered photography.[1] Capture One works with raw files from many different digital cameras as well as TIFF, PSD and JPEG image files.As of summer 2020, capture one has become its own company free standing from Phase One.[2]

Capture one express

Capture One 21 is available for macOS and Microsoft Windows. It is localized for Chinese (simplified), Czech, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish and Swedish.

Capture 1 Pro

There is a version available for owners of digital camera backs from Phase One, Mamiya, and Leaf called Capture One for Phase One (digital back only).

Versions of the software that work only with Sony, Fujifilm or Nikon digital camera raw images are available called Capture One (for Sony)/Fujifilm/Nikon or the free versions called Capture One Express (for Sony)/Fujifilm/Nikon.

Features include[3] film grain, healing and cloning tool, Layers, keystone correction, black and white conversion, ability to print directly from Capture One, and extension to iPad and iPhone with Capture Pilot,[4] noise reduction, color correction, spot removal, High Dynamic Range tools, lens tools and sharpening tools.

Yeah, that’s right, if you were unfortunate enough to buy Capture One for Sony in the last month or two, you’re stuck with an upgrade headed your way along with a price to boot. Not only have the prices jumped substantially, but the upgrade cost is substantially higher than a normal purchase.

As a recent switcher to Capture One, I have to say I love the software, but honestly, what the hell were you guys thinking on the price? You would have a lot more luck if you came in with something close to Adobe’s pricing model on the subscription.

I’m busy writing a comparison between Capture One and Lightroom, but for now, I won’t be recommending Capture One until they sort out their rediculous pricing. I also won’t be upgrading.

If you’re tied to an upgrade, have a look around, there are some 10% off deals going. if you aren’t, wait on bigger discounts, a boxing day sale or something that brings Capture One back to the realms of normality.
